Arthur R. Hand

Arthur R. Hand, age 79, of Peoria, passed away the morning of April 6, 2023 at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center. He was surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle. He was born on March 30, 1944 in Peoria to Leroy and Evelyn (St. Clair) Hand. He married Sandra (Sandy) Clark on June 27, 1964 with whom he made a home for over 58 years. He is survived by his wife Sandra and his children, Vicky (Kevin) Gray of Bartonville, IL and Jeff (Vickie) Hand of Mapleton, IL; six grandchildren, Mat (Shannon), Jamie (Donnie), Rebecca (Adam), Payne (Angelica "Bean"), Anthony and Rachel; six great-grandchildren, Presley, Liam, Kaiden, Benjamin, Hazel "Princess", and Penelope "Plumpy"; one brother, Gary Hand of Deland, FL and one sister, Marilyn (Scott) Luster of Peoria, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Judith Hand and sister-in-law, Paulette Hand. Art (Pops) was a great family man, avid outdoorsman and many times the life of the party. He lived life every day, absorbing in all that it had to offer. He worked hard for what he had and continued doing what he loved until the end. Anyone who knew Art, knew he went by many nicknames. If he knew you, you had one also. Pops loved the outdoors and spent many days camping, hunting, fishing and working in the yard. Sandy and Art spent time with family and friends every chance they got. Whether it was at the camper, traveling, going to dinner, or just enjoying a nice quiet evening sitting around a small fire in the backyard. He loved his animals, played with his doggo (Odie), and made sure all the neighborhood wildlife was well fed. Pops liked singing Karaoke and playing Golden Tee golf. Besides spending time with family and friends, Pops loved painting. Following in the footsteps of his father, Leroy, he was a Union Painter for Local 157 and later District Council 30 for 33 years, retiring in 2006. He continued to help friends and family with any house painting projects when he was available, last working with friends in December of last year. As per Art's wishes there will be no funeral services. However, there will be a celebration of life held on Sunday April 16th, 2023 @ 2:00PM at the Hanna City Sportsman's Club located at 103 S. Main St in Hanna City, IL. Schmidt-Haller Burial & Cremation Service is assisting the family. Cremation rites have been accorded.
