David (Dave) Scherer

Peoria bids a heartfelt farewell to David (Dave) J. Scherer, a remarkable man who brought laughter and joy to all who knew him. On Saturday, July 15th, 2023, Dave peacefully passed away at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Born on August 14th, 1950, in his beloved Peoria, Illinois, Dave was the beloved son of Jim and Charlotte (Morrissey) Scherer. His vibrant spirit and zest for life were evident from an early age, bringing a smile to the faces of everyone he encountered. On February 27th, 1971, he embarked on a lifelong adventure of love and partnership, joining hands in marriage with his soulmate, Carol Edwards. Together, they built a foundation of love, support, and countless cherished moments that will forever be etched in Carol's heart. Dave's legacy extends to his cherished family, each member carrying a piece of his warmth and kindness. Surviving him are his beloved son, Jason (Jaimie) Scherer, and his adored granddaughter, Annalee, who held a special place in Dave's heart. One of their favorite pastimes was building snowmen, their shared creativity and laughter shining brightly in the snow-covered landscapes. These joyful memories will forever be treasured by Annalee and serve as a reminder of the precious bond they shared. Among the cherished relationships that Dave fostered are those with his siblings. Surviving him are his siblings Phil (Kathy) Scherer of Peoria, IL; Bob Scherer of Lexington, KY; Vicky Bradbury of Elmhurst, IL; and Paula Rowan of Peoria, IL. The extended family includes beloved brother-in-laws Tom Caho of Port Byron, IL; Tom Edwards of Peoria, IL; John (Julie) Edwards of Princeville, IL; sister-in-law Judy (Roger) Whitby of Bellevue, IL, and numerous nieces and nephews. Their lives were forever brightened by Dave's infectious laughter, his warm heart, and his unwavering support. In addition to his immediate and extended family, Dave was preceded in death by his parents, as well as Carol’s parents, Bob and Marian Edwards, sister-in-law Kay Caho, brother-in-law Mike Rowan, and his beloved best friend, Roxie, a faithful and loyal dog whose companionship brought immeasurable joy into Dave's life. Dave's dedication and commitment were evident throughout his 43-year career at Komatsu (WABCO), where he left an indelible mark and earned the admiration of colleagues and friends alike. Retirement in 2016 marked the beginning of new adventures for Dave, pursuing his passions with unwavering enthusiasm. He was an avid euchre player, always ready for a friendly game filled with laughter and camaraderie. Dave's loyalty extended to his beloved Chicago Cubs, passionately cheering them on through the highs and lows, sharing in the joys of their victories and the lessons of their defeats. The family would like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the compassionate staff at the Richard L. Owens Hospice Home for their unwavering support and exceptional care during Dave's final days. Their kindness and dedication provided comfort and solace during this difficult time. Cremation rites have been entrusted to the compassionate professionals at Schmidt Haller Cremation Services of Peoria, IL, ensuring that Dave's spirit will forever soar and bring warmth to the hearts of those who loved him. In honor of Dave's compassionate spirit, the family suggests memorial contributions to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home or St. Jude Children's Hospital. These organizations reflect the values that Dave held dear, spreading love, care, and hope to those in need. As we bid farewell to Dave, let us remember the infectious laughter that filled the room when he shared his stories, the warm smile that brightened our darkest days, and the love that he selflessly bestowed upon his family and friends. May his memory serve as a constant reminder to embrace life's passions with enthusiasm, to cherish the bonds we create, and to find joy in the simplest of moments. While Dave's physical presence may be missed, his love for softball, bowling, the Chicago Cubs, and the cherished moments spent playing with his granddaughter Annalee will forever live on in our hearts, ensuring that his spirit remains vibrant and alive.
