Doyle G. Collins

Doyle G. Collins, 85, of Peoria passed away Saturday, April 13, 2024 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born in Parkin, Arkansas on November 29, 1938 to John and Arizona (Giddens) Collins. He married Constance “Connie” Wys in Peoria on August 15, 1958, they shared 65 wonderful years together, and she survives. Doyle is also survived by his two sons, Doyle (Shelley) Collins Jr. and Joshua (Saskia) Collins both of Peoria; six grandchildren, Christopher (Sarah) Collins of Springfield, Matthew Collins of Peoria, Joseph Collins of Denver, Colorado, Brooke Collins of Indianapolis, Indiana, Dylan Collins of Peoria and Haley Collins of Washington; one sister, Norma Montgomery of Peoria and one brother, Desmal “Stormy” Collins of Upland, California. He was preceded in death by his parents; and recently his son, David Collins; three sisters and five brothers. Doyle was a person of many passions, finding joy in the simple pleasures of life. He had a profound love for golf. His hands crafted beautiful pieces of woodworking, his specialty was tables and two clocks. He made his living selling and repairing bicycles, which he loved to do. A true conversationalist, Doyle was known for his warm and welcoming demeanor. He had a gift for storytelling, especially of his days as a youth in Arkansas. Doyle dedicated himself to serving the community through his businesses. He faithfully ran Clark Gas Station at University and Gale for 20 years, becoming a familiar face to all who passed through. He was the proud owner and operator of Bellevue Bicycle Shop, he provided not only great service but also a gathering place for bicycle enthusiasts of all ages. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Carle Hospice for the care that was shown to not only Doyle but the family as well. Visitation will be held Thursday, April 18, 2024 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Schmidt- Haller Burial and Cremation Services, Peoria. Funeral service will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 at 10 a.m. at Schmidt-Haller Burial and Cremation Services, Peoria. Pastor Joel Newton will officiate. Burial to follow at Parkview Cemetery.
