Kyle Matthew Cotham

Kyle Matthew Cotham, beloved father, son, brother, and friend, passed away on June 25, 2025, at the age of 38. Born on September 19, 1986, Kyle brought joy, laughter, and inspiration to those who knew him. From a young age, Kyle shone bright as a star athlete. He excelled in track and basketball, making lasting memories and friendships throughout his school years. After high school, Kyle felt called to serve his country and began an impressive career in the United States Marine Corps. With courage, dedication, and a strong work ethic, Kyle rose quickly through the ranks, earning the respect of his peers and achieving the rank of Gunnery Sergeant faster than most. Kyle was most proud, however, of being a father. His love for his three children—Deven Cotham, Gwen Cotham, and Aubrey Cotham—was immeasurable. He cherished every moment spent with them and considered fatherhood his greatest honor. Kyle is survived by his loving mother, Kimberly Cotham; his father Daniel Thrun; his sister, Rachel Vogelsang, and her husband, Mitchell Vogelsang; his beloved aunts, Aunt KK and Aunt Karen; his uncle Tim Thrun, many cousins; and his treasured children, Deven, Gwen, and Aubrey Cotham. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers, Truman Eugene Cotham and Donald Lee Thrun; his grandmothers, Evelyn Elizabeth Painter and Paulette Rose Roth; his great-aunt, Gail Marie Acosta; and his uncle, Ronald Lee Cotham. A man of many interests, Kyle found joy in art, playing his guitar, attending church, and connecting with his community. Above all, his greatest source of happiness was being with his children and family. Kyle’s legacy of service, kindness, and love will endure in the hearts of all who were blessed to know him. Kyle's family has arranged his memorial service to be held at the Indoor Pekin Pavilion; 1701 Court St, Pekin, IL 61554 on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm and then a burial following the memorial will be held at Camp Butler National Cemetery at 5063 Camp Butler Rd, Springfield IL, 62707 at 2:00 pm with full military rites.
