Sophie Ann Workman

Sophie Ann (Casullo) Workman, age 87, of Morton, formerly of Edwards, IL passed away on Monday, September 4, 2023, at Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. Sophie was born on November 17, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York, to John and Felice (Pezolano) Casullo. Sophie married Billy H. Workman on April 21, 1956, in Maspeth, New York, in a double wedding with her cousin, Terry (Guy) Loudermilk. Bill preceded her in death in 2013. Also preceding her in death were her parents and her three siblings: Joey, Tommy, and John Casullo. She is survived by her children, Kathy (Brian) Morse of Peoria and Linda (Tony) Venable of Nashville, Tennessee; beloved granddaughter Stephanie (Brett) Bergman of Morton; two great-grandsons, Cooper Allen and Carter Joseph Bergman of Morton, whom she adored; and a nephew and two nieces in New York. Sophie and her cousin Terry went on many adventures, but perhaps their greatest adventure was attending a wedding together where they would both meet their future husbands. On their fiftieth wedding anniversary both Sophie and Bill and Terry and Guy's children threw them a double anniversary party in Carmel, Indiana, complete with a recreation of their wedding cake! Sophie and Bill enjoyed fishing, country line dancing, traveling, and gardening together. Between her flowers and Bill's vegetables, their gardens were always top notch. Sophie was an excellent seamstress and she enjoyed cross stitching. Bill made frames for many of her completed projects that hang in our homes today. She was an avid reader and an excellent Italian cook known especially for her homemade noodles and pasta sauce. At sixteen years old, through her school Co-Op, she was in the typing pool at Standard & Poor's in New York City. Later in life, she loved volunteering at Methodist Hospital. She is deeply missed by her family, but her memory will forever be carried in their hearts. Per her request, Sophie was cremated. There will not be a visitation or service. A family memorial celebration will be held on September 30th. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Richard L. Owens Hospice Home in Peoria. The compassion and level of care received there was very much appreciated.
